"About Huntington Beach"

Huntington Beach, originally named Shell City in the late 1880s, then re-named Pacific City, is a favorite Southern California surfing spot and frequent site for international surfing competitions. The popular Jan and Dean hit song in 1963 gave the city it often called "Surf City" name. The beach is great for the family or just a spontaneous day trip. The center attraction is the large 1,800 ft long pier with snack bars and various stands. Fishing rods are abundant and the pier is lit up at night. On the weekends crowds flock to this coastal town for sun worshipping, family outings, and cruising scenic highway 101.

Huntington Beach is located 35 miles south of Los Angeles. Camping is available by calling 714-536-528 or 714-536-1454. Dog lovers can find a pet beach near Golden West Street. Other attractions include: Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve, which is a 300-acre wetland park (714-897-7003); Bolsa Chica State Beach (north of the pier); and don't miss the Huntington Beach International Surfing Museum (714-960-3483). The famous pier was originally built in 1914 and is the longest municipal pier in the United States. The city has 8.5 miles of sun-soaked beaches. Shopping areas include Huntington Beach Mall, at Edinger Avenue and Beach Boulevard, Loehman's Five Point Plaza, at Main Street and Beach, Old World Village, at Center Avenue and Gothard Street and of course, downtown at Main and Pacific Coast Highway
