SERVICE AND SOCIAL ORGANIZATIONS HUNTINGTON HARBOUR PHILHARMONIC COMMITTEE Bringing music mid music education to the children of Orange County and having lots of fun in the process…that's the Huntington Harbour Philharmonic Committee. The HHPC is comprised of seven groups: Islander, Starboard, Nautilus, Admiralty, Windjammer, Trinidad, and Marina. These groups represent over 400 volunteer members and are a part of Orange County Philharmonic Society. Membership in all groups is open to all Huntington Harbour residents. The HHPC sponsors the annual Christmas boat parade for the enjoyment of Harbour families and friends. Lots of lights, music, and ingenuity are combined to have made this two-evening event a must-see item for over twenty-five years. The largest fund-raising event in the Harbour is the annual Cruise of Lights, a fantastic nighttime cruise through the waterways of Huntington Harbour to view the Christmas-lighted decorations on Harbour homes and boats. This event is enjoyed by nearly 30,000 people each year and is spread over 10 nights. The proceeds form the Cruise of lights are used to sponsor music programs for the more than 300,000 school children throughout Orange County. Funds are used purchase musical instruments, music instruction, and Disneyland Band Concerns. HHPC funds and members also support Music Mobile presentations in the classroom where children can see and touch a wide variety of musical instruments. In addition, HHPC volunteers chaperone for over 90,000 fifth-graders attending Youth Concerts at the Performing Arts Center. HUNTINGTON HARBOUR CANCER LEAGUE For new friends, fun and worthwhile endeavors, you can become involved in the Huntington Harbour Cancer League, Orange County's strangest support group for the American Cancer Society. The League was formed in 1980 and held its first fund-raising dinner-dance and auction in 1981. Called DEBUT, the event has elevated in glitter each year with a fashion show featuring local community adult and children models, a silent auction, and a live auction featuring fabulous trips, automobiles, and other treasures. The proceeds from DEBUT go directly to the American Cancer Society to sponsor cancer research, education, and to service cancer patients. Membership is open to all Harbour residents, but is limited to 120 people since meetings are held at member's homes. Member couples meet five times a year to socialize and report on progress toward the next DEBUT. HUNTINGTON HARBOUR YACHT CLUB The Huntington Harbour Yacht Club welcomes boaters and landlubbers alike to enjoy social activities and outings. Both equity and non-equity family memberships are available. The HHYC clubhouse is located on the lower end of the Main Channel next to the fire station. Regular social events include TGIF cocktail parties, formal dances, fun fleet cruises, and special summer fare activities. Your membership also comes with reciprocal rights with most Yacht Clubs all over the world. SEA BELLES The Sea Belles is the Women's Auxiliary of the Huntington Harbour Yacht Club. Monthly luncheon meetings feature fashion shows, programs, and speakers that give women members a chance to have fun and socialize. The members, also put on parties and dances for the club, help out at official functions and raise funds for various projects and causes. ANGLERS The Huntington Harbour Anglers is limited to 100 residents with an interest in sport fishing. Membership is by invitation only. The club promotes sport fishing by actively supporting regulations that safeguard sport fishing facilities, instructing and providing information to seasoned and novice members alike. Aside from the club's fishing activities, members enjoy a full calendar of social functions, inland trips, and competitive events. Our annual charity bazaar raises funds used to sponsor a fishing trip for underprivileged mid abused children from institutions in Orange County. SEAGATE YACHT CLUB A fabulous New Year's Eve party always provides a great start for a year of events that annually features a Casino Night, an elegant Commodore's Ball, an "On The Water" Progressive Dinner, a Mystery Cruise and more. Add in a fishing tournament, a Sunday brunch, and sailboat races and you have a fun year. Founded in 1976, the Seagate Yacht Club is a social club with membership open to all Harbour homeowners, with boat or without. HARBOUR CHARGERS The Harbour Chargers is a social group of electric boat owners. Membership is open all Harbour residents who own an electric boat. Members enjoy a wide variety of on-water parties including Jazz on the Water, the Great Electric Boat Race, a Water Safari and the St Patrick's Day Annual party. The group also participates in yacht club activities on Fourth of July. Labor Day, Opening Day and other events. PERFORMING ARTS CENTER GUILDS The Guilds of the Orange County Performing Arts Center help assure that the finest performing arts have a home in Orange County. BOX Office receipts, even from sold-out attractions, rarely cover the cost of the hundreds of artists and technicians required for a complex production. The fund-raising efforts of the Guilds provide the financial stability necessary to continue to stage performances of the highest quality. Huntington Harbour has three chapters of the Guild and welcomes new members to join the friendly, dedicated, and fun people who share an interest in the Arts. LA FAMILIA The La Familia Auxiliary of Family Service of Orange County is a support group for the counselling service organization. Its purpose is to raise funds and inform the public about services available from Family Service. Regular meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month in a member's home. In addition, fund-raising events and parties provide ample opportunities for socializing while serving a worthy cause. OPERA PACIFIC Since its debut in 1987, Opera Pacific his emerged as one of Orange County's most important cultural resources. The Golden Surf Guild in Huntington Harbour is one of nineteen members of the Opera Pacific Guild Alliance. Membership is open to all. Members enjoy the rewards of making new friends while participating in one if the more prominent and exciting arts organizations. REPUBLICAN WOMEN FEDERATED A local support group for the Republican Party of Orange County, the club meets for lunch on the fourth Wednesday of each month. Speakers include local community leaders and political candidates, as well as other notable individuals. Fund raising activities include a biennial home tour. Other activities include involvement with the annual Fourth of July Parade and sponsorship of select students to the Advocacy Wordshops in Sacramento. VIMS The Volunteers In Multiple Sclerosis is a fund-raising support group of the Multiple Sclerosis Society. The search for a cure for this debilitating disease is aided by the efforts of the Huntington Harbour Chapter. New members are welcomed and will find a dedicated, but fun group of people who have joined together to help fight MS. INTERVAL HOUSE The Huntington Habour League of Interval House is a support group for the Interval House Shelter for women and children victims of domestic violence. Meetings are monthly at a member's home. The League sponsors an annual golf tournament each April at Seacliff Country Club. Other funds are raised through bridge tournaments home tours, and garage sales. The League also supports the annual Interval House Ball, which includes an auction, dinner, celebrity hosts and dancing. LITTLE MERMAIDS The little Mermaid Guild is a support group for the Children's Hospital of Orange County. Members must be Harbour residents. Meeting day is the third Tuesday of each month at a member's home. Fundraising activities include Christmas distribution of the recording "A GIFT OF LIFE", an annual Golf/Tennis tournament, participation in the CHOC WALK, and an annual dinner dance. Our Guild also supports the fund raising events hosted by CHOC hospital itself. These include the sale of Christmas cards and the annual All-Guild Fashion show. Our members share the fulfilling joy of knowing their efforts help provide medical facilities to the children of Orange County. NEWCOMERS The Newcomer's club is open to any person who has moved into Huntington Harbour and has been a resident for no more than two years. The object of the club is to develop friendships among new residents and to help them assimilate into the-Civic and social activities of the community. Meetings are held on the first Thursday of the month, alternating between morning and evening meetings. It is a unique group as it provides a new Harbour resident opportunities to meet other new Harbourites and to help new residents to feel part of the community. FINS The FINS (First In Newcomers) is a follow-up group to tire Newcomer's Club whose purpose is to increase friendship through frequent social activities, thereby increasing the feeling of belonging and nurturing pride in our community. Eligibility for FINS is limited to persons who have completed at least three consecutive years in Newcomer's or are no longer eligible to belong to that group. Prospective members must join FINS within 60 days of leaving Newcomer's. Member activities include monthly coffee, daytime ladies' bridge, evening couples' bridge, daytime ladies' gourmet, evening couples gourmet, excursions, and monthly socials. GARDEN CLUB The Garden Club was founded in 1978 to encourage interest in home gardening, promote better horticulture practices, and to stimulate interest in civic beauty and conservation of natural resources. Membership is open to any Harbour resident with an interest in gardening, however a limit of 60 members is necessary because monthly meetings are held in member's homes. The "Garden of the Month" award is presented by the club to non-Garden Club Harbour residents. From these winners, an annual "Garden of the Year" award is given to encourage beautiful landscaping in Huntington Harbour. CAMS The Classic Antique Motorcar Society is a club for classic car buffs. Established in 1978, the club is limited to 50 members and their families. Membership is by invitation only and to be eligible one must be a Harbour resident and own a classic/antique automobile. The CAMS is purely social and sponsors several events annually including a Pebble Beach trip and a noisy rally on the day of the "mini boat parade" to help kick off the Christmas season. ART ASSOCIATION Our purpose is to promote and encourage public interest in the fine arts by developing opportunities for the vieing and the studying of paintings, works of sculpture and other allied arts. Workshops are presented throughout the year to teach and enhance member skills. An annual Art Show and an annual Needlework show highlight the talents of our members. The Association also helps the local schools promote art through donations of money and supplies. Membership in the Association, founded in 1969, is open to all residents of the Huntington Harbour. HUNTINGTON HARBOUR SKI CLUB The Huntington Harbour Ski Club was formed in 1984 for those Harbour residents who enjoyed skiing. Now numbering 100 members, the club visits many areas of California, the Rockies, and Europe, Each year a major trip is planned along with various mini-trips. Club favorites in Colorade include Snowmass, Vail, Steamboat Springs, and Keystone, as well as Deer Valley, Utah. The club also features parties and other social events throughout the year. Membership is by invitation and acceptance. WANDERLUST SKI CLUB This ski club does not require that its members be from Huntington Harbour. Formed in 1980, the club has 120 members and meets six times a year. YOUTH SHELTER GUILD The Huntington Youth Shelter Guild is a support group for the runaway teen shelter in Huntington Beach. The Shelter is a "safe-house" for young people, ages 11 thru 17, who are in crisis and feel they have no place to turn. Realizing that teens and their parents need "cooling off period", the Shelter houses, feeds, and counsels these young people with the intent of reuniting them with their families, if possible. The Guild supports the with fund-raising events, including a Golf Tounament and a Dinner-Dance. Guild members meet monthly and welcome all to join in this worthy cause.
