Chester Youth Council

The Chester Youth Council is hosting a 3 on 3 basketball tournament on Aug. 24th at the Chester High School Gym for ages 9 through? This is the second year they have provided fun, competitive interaction for youth from Chester and surrounding towns. The Chester Yellow Jackets will have their annual SOAP Game that evening and all youth plan to attend to show their school pride. They are also hosting a Home Run Derby to be held at the Chester Cohen Fields on Sunday Sept. 8th as part of the citys' Popeye Picnic. All ages are invited to participate. For information on any of these events or if you are interested in becoming a member of the CYC, please contact Julie Eggemeyer at julieeggemeyer@hotmail.com. The Chester Youth Council have established their non for profit status on both the State and Federal levels. A river front project is in the middle stages at the present time and will be near completion by Sept. 6th. Our members attend one City Council Meeting a month to ask questions, to listen and to learn about how the city is run on a day to day basis. The youth are encouraged to take part and be active in any political activities that they are interested in. They are the Youth For the Future working together to instill pride and interest in their community. Presently there are over 400 active members. The youth have their own Council that they elect every year and representatives from grades 6 to 12. Those elected are responsible for bringing issues and ideas to their council. An adult Council and Board oversee and assist these youth. A CYC camp out will be held on Sept. 7th from 9 p.m. until 9 a.m. for all CYC youth with a wiffle ball game to be held at midnight under the lights. Need more info? Let us know.
