Winter Temple #78, Pythian Sisters of Iowa

Pythian Sisters are about friendship, first and foremost. Our goal is to be a friend to each other, our community, our country and our world. Each year we support the Supreme Temple’s project - currently Special Olympics - and also the Grand Temple’s project, which is currently Camp Courageous, but as of September 8, 2002, will be the Ronald McDonald Houses.

Each year we elect a Temple Mother - this is an honored position, as this person receives gifts and cards for special events throughout the year, including Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, birthday, etc.
Each member receives a birthday cards from the Temple, rides whenever needed, get well cards, and get well gifts if they are hospitalized. At Christmas a special gift is provided for our shut-in members.
We have served food at auctions, held garage sales, had Watkins and Stanley parties, all to support our special projects. We are hoping to have a dance in the near future.

Events Calendar
Meetings are the first and third Thursdays at 7 pm at the Star of the West Lodge, 1101 Old Marion Road N.E. Except during January and February and March when we recess for winter, and July and August when we have just one meeting a month.

At each meeting this year the members have been asked to bring a special item that will go to Camp Courageous, our Most Excellent Chief’s project. These items have included empty medicine bottles, jello, salt, tape, etc.
The first meeting in August is Kool Moo nite, when we enjoy treats for the local ice cream store.
The fourth Monday of each month is Potluck nite. Special speakers/music are enjoyed along with great homemade food.
The Knights and Sisters summer picnic is usually held in August.
In November, the popular soup supper is held. Chili and vegetable soup with relishes, drinks, desserts are all prepared by members and served to the public.
A Christmas Party is held each December.
