Local Artist Hand Sculpts Into Egg Shells
Alan W. Rabon, a local artist in Lawrenceville, Georgia, is creating his original artistic designs into an unlikely material. First, egg shlells are emptied, cleaned and sterilized. Then, a design is sketched onto the surface of the egg. Next, the egg is carefully carved into intricate designs. These designs can be simple or very complex. It is the execution of the carving that makes or "breaks" the eggshell. Pun intended! To see more examples of my egg artwork go to: www.heirloomcrafters.com or contact me directly at ar1961sc@yahoo.com
Thicker eggshells like the ostrich egg can be carved into delicate and detailed relief sculptures. The chicken and duck eggs are too thin to care into relief so I carefully carve out designs and patterns into the surface of each of the shells. No two eggs are ever exactly alike.
These egg sculptures are truly unique individual works of art that are highly collectible. Estimates are that these works of art will only increase in value over the next few years.
